SUMMARY:Summer Birds of the Bay Area Class\, May 8 – July 10
DESCRIPTION:May 8-July 10 (Weds. 9am-12pm) \nMeets at North Berkeley Senior Center\, 1901 Hearst (at ML King Way)\, Berkeley \nRegistration is $75\, use the website or register at the first class. \nThe BBA class is a relaxed introduction to the birds of the Bay Area. It meets for 10 weeks\, with six fieldtrips and four class sessions (class sessions meet at the NBSC). Fieldtrips will explore parks throughout the Bay Area\, such as Martinez and Del Valle Regional Parks\, Baylands Preserve and Shollenberger Park in Petaluma. The class will concentrate on raptor and shorebird biology and identification\, and also includes discussion of field-guides and binocular use. Among the 75 plus species we frequently see on class outings are raptors such as Red-tail hawks\, White-tail kites and Kestrels\, Pintail\, Green-wing Teal\, Shoveler and Gadwall ducks; Acorn\, Nuttall’s\, Flickers and Downy woodpeckers\, and shorebirds such as Killdeer\, godwits\, Long-billed Curlews and Willets. Car-pooling available for field trips. \n

SUMMARY:Elkhorn Slough Estuarine Preserve\, Moss Landing
DESCRIPTION:Elkhorn Slough\, situated in the middle of Monterey Bay\, has a fabled reputation as one of the greatest concentrations of marine mammals (sea otters and seals) and birdlife found anywhere on the California coast. The preserve and the surrounding area has a great variety of wetlands\, seacoast\, ponds\, beautiful beaches and woodlands. We can expect to see pelicans\, ducks\, shorebirds and terns\, plus raptors\, cormorants\, grebes\, songbirds and perhaps owls\, as well as Sea Otters and seals. Bring or buy lunch at Moss Landing. Walking is at a casual pace\, about two miles.

SUMMARY:Coyote Hills Regional Park
DESCRIPTION:For its size\, this small regional park has a great diversity of habitat\, including extensive marshes\, grasslands\, hills and scattered open woodlands. Consequently it has a great diversity of birds such as raptors\, woodpeckers\, shorebirds\, wildfowl\, owls and songbirds. Included are Green-wing and Cinnamon Teal\, White Pelicans\, Harriers\, White-Tail Kites and Forster’s Terns. Songbirds such as Orioles\, Marsh Wrens\, Western Bluebirds and Red-wing Blackbirds are among the many songbirds seen in the summer. Great Horned Owls are resident.

SUMMARY:Bolinas Lagoon/Coast Birding
DESCRIPTION:This day trip to the secluded and fabled village of Bolinas in West Marin is sponsored by the Albany Senior Center\, and transportation and lunch are included in the fee. We will bird along the lagoon\, explore the village shops\, have lunch at the Bolinas Café\, and bird along the beach. Many species of ducks\, shorebirds\, raptors\, terns\, grebes and cormorants\, among others\, are found in the lagoon and along the coastline.
