The BBA class is a relaxed introduction to the birds of the Bay Area. It meets for 10 weeks, with six fieldtrips and four class sessions (class sessions meet at the NBSC). Fieldtrips will explore parks throughout the Bay Area, such as Bolinas Lagoon, the Sonoma-Napa Shoreline, Sunol Regional Park and Rush Creek, among others. The class discusses binocular use and techniques of identification and observation, together with standard field-guides. Among the 75 plus species we frequently see on class outings are raptors such as Red-tail hawks, White-tail kites and Kestrels, Pintail, Green-wing Teal, Shoveler and Gadwall ducks; Acorn, Nuttall’s, Flickers and Downy woodpeckers, and shorebirds such as Killdeer, godwits, Long-billed Curlews and Willets. Car-pooling available for field trips.
