Davis Raptor Center and Lake Solano
November 29, 2014 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Sat. Nov. 29, 9am-4pm
This fall tour begins at the Raptor Center at UC Davis, where we’ll view Great Horned Owls, Golden Eagles, accipiters and several species of hawks. At nearby Putah Creek we’ll search for Red-tails, Western bluebirds, warblers, kinglets, finches and blackbirds. Heading west to Winters, we’ll lunch at a local diner. Then it’s off to Lake Solano where birds include many kinds of ducks (including mergansers and Wood ducks), woodpeckers and songbirds. Along the lake shore we’ll search for elusive Phainopeplas and Pygmy owls. Finally we head up to dramatic Lake Berryessa for White-throated swifts, raptors and wrens, among others. This is an exciting tour with a constantly changing landscape, wonderful scenery and many birds. Walking is minimal.
