Klamath Nat. Wildlife Refuge Tour, CA/OR

May 16, 2013 - May 19, 2013

In the spring of each year, many thousands of wildfowl, shorebirds and raptors pass through or breed in the complex of wildlife refuges known as the Klamath Basin, located on the California-Oregon border. This wild, open and scenic country contains thousands of acres of marshes, forests and lakes that host one of the great spectacles of birdlife on the West Coast. Birds found here include Sandhill cranes, Snow and White-fronted geese, shorebirds, Tundra swans, ducks of all descriptions, Bald Eagles, Red-tails and Harriers, owls and many kinds of songbirds. We will head out each day to view wildlife at several refuges, lakes or marshes. We expect to see 70-80 species; walking will be minimal, terrain mostly level. Our lodgings will be in Klamath Falls, Oregon. We will meet Thurs. afternoon to check in, have dinner, discuss sightings and itinerary; departing time will be noon Sunday. Travel options: drive, car pool or Amtrak service to Klamath Falls, OR (with van transportation available at Klamath Falls). Lodging and other information will be sent at time of registration.
