Magpies, Orioles and Roadrunners: The Mines Road Tour
May 9, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Sat. May 9, 9am-4pm
Mines Road is a trip through wild and rugged country into the vanished landscape of Alameda County. It begins at the Concannon Winery in Livermore, and winds past sycamore-lined creeks, oak woodlands and chaparral-covered hillsides. It boasts a legendary assortment of birds, including Golden Eagles, Yellow-billed Magpies, Phainopeplas, Roadrunners, Red-shouldered hawks, orioles and Great Horned owls. Even Lawrence’s goldfinches and Lewis’ woodpeckers are possible. Bring drinks or lunch, or buy one at the Junction Café. We expect to see at least 50 species for the day. This tour is primarily roadside birding, with very little walking. Meet at Concannon Winery in Livermore, 9am.
